Clutch Master Cylinders
Hydraulics
Description
When upgrading your clutch, don't overlook upgrading your clutch master cylinder as well. Typically the OEM master cylinder will work just fine, but sometimes that master cylinder is getting old and tired and possibly might be leaking. Or maybe your want just a little bit more crisper pedal feel when operating your clutch. Upgrading to the Clutch Masters Billet Aluminum Master Cylinder will make sure your clutch hydraulic system is up to snuff and able to handle more aggressive driving. The other notable upgrade this kit will do for you is eliminate the clutch delay valve that is built into the factory master cylinder. The delay valve is a one way regulating valve that slows the fluid returning from the slave cylinder after you let off the clutch. This delay is especially noticeable in quick 1-2 gear shifts where you get back on the gas before the clutch is fully engaged. By getting rid of the delay valve you are able to shift quickly and the clutch is immediately engaging. On high powered cars where you want to still enable a little bit of delay or slip of the clutch to prevent the drivetrain from getting a shock, check out our tunable Flow Control Valve.
This is a complete plug and play kit and includes everything you need to install this system. Will work with OEM slave cylinders.
**NOTE** Because of the wide range of adjustability on this master cylinder with the ability to adjust where the master cylinder is situated relative to the firewall and the pedal, as well as the ability to adjust the clevis on the push rod, it is highly recommended that you check the overall throw of your new master cylinder setup and make sure that you are not overthrowing the diaphragm of the clutch. You may need to setup a clutch pedal stop or make adjustments to the master cylinder housing location or push rod and clevis assembly to prevent overthrowing the diaphragm. With an OEM slave cylinder this should be difficult to do because it only has so much travel but it is something that must be consider when using our billet master cylinders. We made these master cylinders as adjustable as possible to allow users to dial in where in the clutch pedal's travel the clutch is engaging and disengaging.

Comments:
Was having a bit of trouble with my OEM Subaru master cylinder so I bought this unit to replace it as I've had positive experiences with Wilwood products in the past.
The master cylinder, stainless hose, and billet parts were free of any defects and all the hardware provided in the kit was the correct size.
Bench bled before installing according to Wilwood's procedure with my preferred ATE 200 fluid. Installation was a breeze and required no special tools, just a ratchet, sockets, wrenches, a torque wrench, and a vacuum bleeder. I applied the green #2 grease from Lucas to the pin before buttoning everything up and it has kept it quiet and smooth so far.
The engagement of my clutch is crisp and precise near the top of the pedal. No leaks have developed after a few weeks of driving in varying conditions. As a side note, I didn't realise quite how much of an effect the delay valve in the original master cylinder had until I attempted a flat foot shift at full power with the new cylinder. I have a supercharged BRZ that develops around 300 whp with a South Bend stage 2 clutch - an Ecutek modulated flat foot shift that had previously just broken the tires loose a bit is now capable of slipping the clutch due to the sheer speed at which the hydraulics can allow re-engagement.
All things considered, this is a great kit. Excellent quality, as I'd expect from Wilwood and a stylish set of billet vehicle specific interface components provided by Clutch Masters. Wish I had bought it sooner!
