Toyota Supra MK5 6-Speed Manual Transmission Clutch Kits and Flywheels Now Available!!

Well what do ya know, Toyota actually listened to everyone and released the MK5 Supra with a manual transmission! What they apparently missed however, was the fact that people are already pushing the B58 engine to the limit and making some incredible power. They equipped the car with a single disc clutch and a chunky dual mass flywheel. Well, Clutch Masters to the rescue! Being a premium car, we developed a line of premium clutch kits for the MK5 Supra.

We know that there is a wide range of users out there enjoying their Supras in vastly different ways. Some are enjoying them as daily driven street cars, while others are building them solely to be used and abused at the track. We are offering options for every Supra owner so they can still continue to enjoy their car the way they want to, but have faith knowing that their clutch is ready to handle whatever they want to throw at it. Already we have gotten several calls from MK5 owners with clutches slipping with simple bolt ons and a tune needing an upgraded replacement single disc, as well as those going for big power numbers for drift, drag, and track cars who would be in the market for a twin disc.

Our friends over at Patrick Blake Racing, or PBR, who are very well known in the Supra world, were able to do some test fitments and driving and were absolutely stoked on the new kit. They put together this little reel for us to showcase the install!

Short Shift Series Billet Single Disc Clutch Kits

Lets start with our single disc clutch kit replacement option. Our Short Shift (or SS) series of billet aluminum clutch covers were designed to take a typical single disc clutch kit to that next level of performance. From the get go our engineers sat down to develop a clutch kit that was street friendly, allowed for faster shifts, had a lighter rotating mass, and the consistent pedal feel you expect from a clutch on the track. To accomplish this we took everything we've learned from decades of perfecting our Twin Disc clutch kits and designed it around the fitment of an OE style clutch cover. By utilizing the diaphragm that we equip all of our 850 Series Twin Disc clutch kits with, we are able to significantly reduce the amount of pedal throw it takes to disengage the clutch. When using the 850 Series diaphragm and our specially formulated Hi-Leverage pivot point modifications found in all of our clutch kits, we are also able to increase the clamp load of the clutch as well compared to the OE setup, while also maintaining a very manageable pedal feel.

With the implementation of a billet aluminum cover, the complete clutch assembly becomes much more rigid then the factory OE stamped steel cover, inherently there is less flex every time you step on the clutch pedal. With the billet cover, 850 Series diaphragm, and a few other engineering tricks, we've created something we feel is perfect for those enthusiasts that know it’s the small things that truly make a build enjoyable and want to eke out every last bit of performance they can. The Short Shift series of clutch kits are perfect for the daily driven street car as well as a dedicated race car that doesn't make the power to necessitate a twin disc.

Features of Short Shift Billet Single Disc Clutch Kits:

  • Shorter, faster, more precise shifts

  • 10% lighter then OE stamped steel cover

  • Billet aluminum cover means there is less flex then OE stamped steel cover which means faster engagement and disengagement

  • Heavier diaphragm allows more clamping force to be obtained

  • Modified pivot point on steel casting makes pedal feel minimally heavier then a stock clutch.

  • Works with factory hydraulics (upgraded internal release bearing and clutch master cylinder are coming soon!!)

  • Comes with new throw out bearing specifically designed to take advantage of the short throw of the clutch

  • Available in several different disc material configurations for street or track use

To accompany our single disc clutch kits, we also have lightweight steel and aluminum flywheels available. One thing to note is our single disc clutch cover will bolt up to the factory flywheel. However since the factory flywheel is a dual mass flywheel, if you want to continue to use the OE flywheel and not opt for one of our lightweight steel or aluminum flywheels, you will need to specify this when ordering and we will spec the clutch kit out with a rigid hub disc instead of our sprung hub disc. Alternatively, you can order the FX500 clutch kit which is a rigid hub normally meant for race use only (if used without the dual mass flywheel) but uses premium ceramic material just like our FX400 kits do, but the FX400s utilize a sprung hub. We know there are big gains to be made by ditching the OE dual mass flywheel so we feel most are going to want to go that route anyway.

1000 Series Twin Disc

For those of you that are trying to find the limits of the B58 and the MK5 platform, we have our 1000 Series Twin Disc. Our 1000 Series is proven to handle setups making incredible amounts of power. This twin disc setup has been the go to for MK4 Supra owners making over 1000whp for years now and has proven itself more then capable of handling everything thrown it’s way.

The 1000 Series clutch is designed to handle well over 1000 ft. lbs of torque all the while still being street friendly thanks to it's strap driven design. The strap-driven plate design allows for smooth engagement and minimal clutch chatter while still being able to withstand hard launching, clutch kicking, and high RPM shifting.

The MK5 Supra 1000 Series kit comes equipped with a single rigid hub clutch disc and a sprung hub disc, both of which are utilizing the highest grade ceramic friction material available to make sure you are getting every last drop of power from the engine to the wheels. Also included is an aluminum flywheel to help lighten up the rotating mass versus the factory dual mass flywheel for the ultimate driving experience!

The cover assembly is machined from billet aluminum and is then Type 3 hard anodized. Our billet covers have roughly 25% more tensile strength than the competition’s cast unit. By focusing our ability on machining the strongest cover possible while maintaining minimal weight, we are basically able to eliminate any flex in the cover. Our billet covers see only .003" of flex where as a cast or stamped unit can see as much as .030" of flex. By eliminating this flex in the cover, the driver is able to operate the clutch much more consistently and confidently. All the movement being applied to the diaphragm of the clutch from the throwout bearing is used solely to engage and disengage the clutch and isn't wasted by the cover flexing first. The strength of our covers also results in greater clamping force over the same amount of area vs. a cast or stamped cover. This means our twin discs are easy to drive and have superior clamping force to make sure all the power your engine is making is being utilized.

Our aluminum flywheels are machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum to meet SFI spec 1.2 for competition in NHRA, NDRA, IDRC, IHRA, SCCA and NASA. Aluminum flywheels are Type 3 hard coat anodized to ensure their durability and performance lasts. Each aluminum flywheel includes a replaceable insert.

Every stage clutch kit option comes as a complete kit including disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and alignment tool.
