Now Available | Single Disc Clutch Kits and Lightweight Steel Flywheel for the 2015-2023 Ford Mustang 2.3L EcoBoost

When Ford initially announced it was going to be releasing a Mustang with a 2.3L turbo engine, enthusiasts weren’t quite sure what to think. Fast forward 8 years now and the EcoBoost Mustang has proven to be a hit with the general public as well as hardcore enthusiasts that push their cars to the limit on the track.

We’ve got several requests for replacement flywheels and clutch kits for these cars now and we finally found a chance to develop both. Starting with a lightweight steel flywheel as well as our full line-up of single disc clutch kits.

Single Disc Clutch Kits

This is no ordinary factory Ford stamped steel cover we are using for our clutch kits. We took the opportunity to create an upgraded clutch kit that uses a larger disc as well as a heavier duty cover and pressure plate allowing more clamping force and performance to be obtained. Our tried and true FX Series clutch kits have been proven time and time again to be reliable and consistent all while maintaining factory or just slightly heavier then factory pedal feel depending on the stage of clutch being installed.

Clutch Masters single disc clutch kits are true high performance clutch systems which are technologically superior to anything currently on the market. By re-engineering the leverage, or fulcrum point on the pressure plate with our Hi-Leverage technique, we have been able to increase clamping power, often without changing pedal pressure. Our Hi-Leverage technology allows us to move the pressure plate leverage ring closer to the pivot point. Doing this has allowed us to solve the clamping vs. pedal pressure problem in a unique way. By moving the pressure ring pivot point, our Hi-Leverage Pressure Plates take mechanical advantage of the leverage principle. By moving the leverage ring closer to the pivot point as well as re-arching and precisely heat treating the clutch diaphragm, the pressure applied to the clutch disc is increased significantly without unnecessarily increasing pedal pressure, as is typically the case with other aftermarket clutch options. Moving the pivot point takes several extra steps to accomplish when manufacturing our clutches in order for them to work flawlessly with OEM stamped covers and is something we’ve perfected through over 40 years of our industry expertise.

In addition to our ability to increase clamping pressure without increasing pedal pressure, there are some other key advantages realized when using our Hi-Leverage technology. One serious problem associated with increased pedal pressure is it increases the chances of damaging the crank thrust bearing, inherently leading to crank-walk. Increased pedal pressure can put additional strain and fatigue on clutch linkages, throw out bearings and hydraulic systems causing them to fail prematurely.

All single disc clutch kit stages come as a complete kit including disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and alignment tool.

Lightweight Steel Flywheel

To accompany our single disc clutch kits, we also have lightweight steel flywheel available. This is actually technically a “button” flywheel as it needs to be used with the automatic flexplate. For some reason at the moment we are unable to get our hands on the ring gears that these engines use and had to resort to using the flexplate that is readily available from Ford at a reasonable price. This will get those customers looking for an upgraded flywheel up and running while we work on getting ring gears manufactured to make a complete one piece billet flywheel that includes the ring gear, but at the current state of manufacturing that could take 6-8 months. Our flywheel includes the flexplate so you don’t need to try and source that, it will come as a complete kit with the flexplate already installed on the flywheel, ready for you to bolt to the motor.

This flywheel was designed to be used with our clutch kits and is designed to use a larger disc and a better designed cover that what we feel comes with the car from the factory. In short, it will NOT work with an OE style clutch kit. Our improved cover and larger disc means you will get more torque holding capacity using equal friction material and stage of clutch kit.
